Online High School Homeschool Resources
Alternative Options and Resources for High School Homeschoolers
High school students are at a formative time in their lives where they are finding their voice, discovering their passions, and making plans for their path to the future. Homeschooling high school students is one way to provide space for creativity and flexibility in learning. K12-powered online learning provides an alternative option you may not have considered.
K12 is public school at home—a tuition-free* option with state-certified teachers, quality curriculum, and resources for parents (who also serve as their child's Learning Coach).
What are the differences between homeschooling and a K12-powered online high school?
There are several differences. For starters, though learning happens at home, K12-powered schools are not homeschools and the students who attend are not considered homeschooled.
K12-powered schools:
Have an administration with a principal and other support staff
Offer social and extracurricular activities for students
Comply with state-mandated testing, attendance, and academic progress requirements

Does online public school prepare my student for college and career?
K12-powered schools can certainly set students up for success. The innovative and interactive online environment provides space for independent learning and teacher support when needed.
Students can choose from comprehensive, credit recovery, honors, and Advanced Placement® online courses.** In addition to required courses, students can choose from a wide variety of general and career-focused electives. Educational materials are sent right to your home.† Check out these sample lessons to gain a better understanding of how online courses work.
What is my role?
Similar to homeschooling, you'll play an important role in your child's learning when your student attends a K12-powered school. You or another responsible adult are designated as your student's Learning Coach. Learning Coaches help students stay on track with their classes and academic goals. There are numerous resources available for Learning Coaches as well as the opportunity to connect with the larger K12-powered parent community.
