Are you a student at a K12-powered school who loves telling stories through video? The Reel Me Competition is a chance for you to share your online learning experience in a one-minute video that’s real, raw, and uniquely you. Whether you’re a seasoned creator or new to video-making, these tips will help you craft a standout entry—for a chance to win $250!
1. Choose Your Theme
Start by selecting one of the four competition themes:
- My K12 Why – Why is online school the perfect fit for you? Share your motivation and what makes learning from home special.
- Myth Busters – Address common misconceptions about online school and show the reality of your experience.
- Flex Your Schedule – Highlight how online learning gives you the freedom to balance school with hobbies, sports, or family time.
- Future Focus – Share your post-high school goals and how online learning is helping you prepare for them.
Once you’ve chosen your theme, craft your video around it for a clear and compelling story.
2. Start With a Strong Idea
Your video should answer one key question: How has your K12-powered online school helped you discover your authentic self? Think about your unique experience—maybe it’s the flexibility to explore a passion, the supportive teachers, or the ability to learn at your own pace. Keep your message clear and personal.
3. Keep It Short and Focused
You have just 60 seconds, so make every second count! Start with a strong hook to grab attention, stay on topic, and wrap up with a memorable ending. Avoid unnecessary details—stick to the heart of your story.
4. Show, Don’t Just Tell
A great video is more than just words! Use visuals, clips, or images that bring your story to life. Show yourself in action—whether it’s studying, working on a hobby, or interacting with family or friends.
5. Film in a Well-Lit, Quiet Space
Good lighting and clear audio make a big difference! Record in a bright, quiet spot to ensure you look and sound your best. Natural light from a window works great; using a microphone or speaking close to your camera helps with clear sound.
6. Be yourself!
Authenticity is key—speak naturally and let your personality shine. Don’t worry about being perfect; what matters most is that your video feels honest and heartfelt.
7. Edit for Impact
Use simple video editing tools to trim unnecessary parts, add captions, or include music (if it’s royalty-free and not copyrighted). Keep transitions smooth, and make sure your message flows well within the time limit.
8. Check the Rules and Submit on Time
Before submitting, review the Reel Me judging criteria and prizes—and double-check the competition guidelines to ensure your video meets all the requirements. Submit your entry by June 30, 2025, and you could win up to $250!
Are you ready to roll? Grab your smartphone or camera and start filming—this is your time to shine!
