The COVID-19 pandemic forced many American schools to hastily transition to online learning. In a recent study, Ian Kingsbury, Education Policy Fellow at the Empire Center for Public Policy, compared the online learning experience of students enrolled in brick-and-mortar schools that transitioned to online learning to the experience of students who were already enrolled in virtual schools when the pandemic began. What did he find? Respondents were almost 6.5 times more likely to report that their child "learned a lot" in the spring if they were enrolled in a K12-powered school.
