Table of Contents

The K12 National Photography Competition is back — and this year marks a full decade of student creativity in focus.

For 10 years, students across the country have captured everything from quiet, everyday moments to once-in-a-lifetime shots. Now it’s your child’s turn to step behind the lens and share how they see the world.

Whether they’re snapping photos on a phone, experimenting with a DSLR, or just discovering their love for photography, this is their chance to be seen, celebrated — and maybe even win big!

Because sometimes, one photo can say it all.

Why This Isn’t Just Another Photo Contest

This competition is about more than great pictures — it’s about perspective.

When your child enters, they’re not just submitting a photo. They’re sharing a story, a point of view, or a moment that matters to them.

Here’s what they can gain along the way:

  • A chance to showcase their creativity and tell their story
  • Opportunities to win cash prizes or Tango e-gift cards
  • National recognition across K12 platforms
  • A moment in the spotlight among peers, families, and educators

And the best part? There’s no “right” way to participate. No fancy gear required. Just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to try.

Who can enter?

Pretty much any student with a camera and an idea.

This competition is open to all students in grades PreK–12, no matter how they learn — public school, private school, homeschool, or online.

If your child loves taking pictures (or even just kind of likes it), this competition is for them.

Big Prizes, Fair Playing Field

Students compete within their own grade bands (PreK–2, 3–5, 6–8, 9–12), so everyone gets a fair shot.

  • 1st Place: $500
  • 2nd Place: $250
  • People’s Choice: $100

Winners can choose between cash or Tango e-gift cards.

What can they submit?

This year? Anything.

There’s no set theme, so your child has total creative freedom to explore what inspires them.

They can:

  • Submit as many original photos as they’d like
  • Capture everyday moments, big adventures, or something completely unexpected
  • Experiment with angles, lighting, subjects — whatever sparks their interest

Some of the best photos come from the most ordinary moments that are seen a little differently.

Key Dates to Know

Here’s how it all unfolds:

  • Entries Open: May 27, 2026
  • Deadline to Enter: August 26, 2026
  • Public Voting: May 27–August 26, 2026
  • Winners Announced: October 2026

Public voting runs the entire entry period, which means photos submitted earlier have more time to collect votes and build momentum. If your child is thinking about entering, it pays to start snapping sooner rather than later.
