DAOF is open to full-time, Florida residents. We offer a personalized approach to education, a full suite of academic and school support services, career and college prep, and adherence to required state testing.

The Support You and Your Student Need

Our teachers are committed to helping your family succeed with online learning. They provide instruction and support as your child works through the curriculum. And they keep the lines of communication open through email, phone, online “Class Connect” sessions, and online and in-person activities. You’ll also receive textbooks and other hands-on materials delivered right to your door! These offline materials complement the interactive online elements of the lessons and vary by grade and course.

Career and College Prep

You can use your middle and high school years to figure out where you want to go and how to get there. In addition to core courses, you’ll take career-focused electives to explore your options and find your passion—all while earning your high school diploma. Discovering what you want to do now can prepare you to dive into a career right out of high school or help you make the right decision about your college major. Career fields include Arts, AV Technology & Communication; Business Management & Administration; Health Science; Hospitality & Tourism; and Information Technology.

Miami-Dade Online (MDO) Academy is a Miami-Dade County Public School offering students a comprehensive K-12 full-time virtual educational program providing, anytime, anywhere learning. This virtual and interactive learning environment is student-centered and academically individualized to build educational capacity. We service a diverse population of learners. This approach encourages students to be self-directed and take charge of their education. MDO Academy uses technology to maximize learning and ultimately empowers students to positively impact their world and become responsible citizens.

Our Story

Miami-Dade Online Academy (MDO) was created by the State of Florida in 2009 to offer parents an option to teach their students at home using a standards-based curriculum. The virtual doors opened in 2009 with 52 students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Families choose in this program to run a public school in their home. The fact that the school is ran in the student’s home surrounded by their family fosters a nurturing and respectful environment. This program in this environment has proven to give student’s greater opportunities to be successful in society.

Miami-Dade Online Academy is an accredited Miami-Dade County public school offering parents and students a comprehensive Kindergarten through twelfth grade full-time virtual educational program, delivered anytime and anywhere. Students are free to work from any venue, at any time, giving them the opportunity to excel academically, as a professional athlete, and/or participate in extracurricular activities. Students of all ages flourish in this program. Students are not bound by a conventional school site schedule; they have the freedom to be self-directed and take charge of their education.

Teachers

Miami-Dade Online students are assigned to Florida certified teachers who are responsible to support students as they work through a standards-based curriculum. They teach the virtual weekly classes, schedule the monthly student evaluations, grade assignments, offer office hours, and monitor the student’s progress daily. The student and teacher enhance their academic relationship using today’s technology, which may include a combination of email, video chats, phone calls, text messages, and teacher feedback videos. Teachers review a student’s progress, document their interactions with each student, and develop the strategies to improve a student’s online education. Teachers also provide students with academic challenges to raise the academic bar and create education plans for struggling students. Teachers individualize each plan based on a student’s needs and academic capability.

Individual course enrollments are now supported by our program. Students enrolled in traditional schools may enroll in online courses as well.

New options are available for home schooled students, while they retain their Home Education status. State and District testing are not required for Home Education students.

Our teachers are Florida Certified teachers.

Palm Beach embraces student acceleration and Accelerated Math Programs (AMP) are implemented.

Books and materials are sent to students free of charge (including shipping costs to and from).

We offer a range of optional extracurricular activities including field trips and parent networking events.
